Publix is Expanding in Kentucky

Supermarket News (SN) reports that Florida-based grocer Publix plans to open a second store in Kentucky. The new location will be at the northwest corner of Pleasant Valley Road and Hayden Road in Owensboro. This market will exceed 50,000 square feet and create up to 150 new jobs for the community.

The first Publix in the Bluegrass State opened its doors in Louisville this January. The company operates nearly 1,400 stores across eight southern states, with the lion’s share—almost 900—in Florida, where the company is headquartered. SN also reports that the company had future plans for stores in Lexington and Walton.

Publix claims to be the largest employee-owned company in the U.S., boasting over 255,000 employees. As of yet there is no indication on a grand opening date for the new Owensboro store.
