Gov. Holcomb, officials break ground on Indiana ORX approach corridor

EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WEHT) — A new chapter begins in the Ohio River Crossing project to link Indiana and Kentucky.

Indiana Governor Eric Holcomb helped break ground on another phase of the project on Tuesday.

The groundbreaking took place near the Weinbach Avenue and Waterworks Road intersection — just a couple steps from the Indiana and Kentucky border.

Officials say Tuesday marks a key date in creating a safe and efficient roadway between the Hoosier and Bluegrass States.

They say opportunities are endless with this kind of development.

Governor Holcomb, Evansville Mayor Stephanie Terry and Indiana Department of Transportation Commissioner Mike Smith breaks ground on phase three of the Ohio River Crossing, better known as ORX.

It’s an extension of Interstate 69 that officials say will be a safe, efficient and direct connection between Indiana and Kentucky.

Governor Holcomb also calls it a crown jewel to the state’s infrastructure system.

“This has a generational, positive impact that I think is impossible to quantify because all the smaller communities along the route that all of a sudden get connected — directly connected — to that flight path if you will,” Governor Holcomb says.
