Big changes coming for Evansville’s West Side drivers as Lloyd overhaul continues

EVANSVILLE – Yet another major change is coming to the city’s West Side as crews continue to overhaul the Lloyd Expressway .

Starting Saturday, westbound traffic traveling between Barker Avenue and the Posey County line will shift. Vehicles will move into formerly eastbound lanes , creating only one lane each for west- and eastbound drivers.

The switch is expected to start around 7 a.m.

“Delays are expected between 8 and 9 a.m. as crews shift traffic into the new configuration,” INDOT said in a news release. “… Westbound motorists will need to use caution as traffic crosses to the south side and reduces down to one lane.

“Follow the signs and pavement markings and observe the posted speed. The exit at University Parkway is marked and will remain open.”

The shift will clear space for workers to tackle a slew of work in the westbound lanes, including new pavement, bridge reconstruction and changes to the intersections themselves. But it will slow traffic immensely, and will do so at least until the middle of 2025, the release states.
