OWENSBORO, Ky. (WEHT) — The race to be a city commissioner in Owensboro is heating up—the seven candidates who filed for a seat faced off tonight during a public forum at city hall. Moderated by Jared Revelett, Owensboro Public Schools PIO, candidates answered several questions about various topics, including public safety and gun control.
The candidates say the school threats are getting out of control, and say something has to change, which they say could begin in the home.
“We can set a tone. We can help our officers. We can give them raises. I have done a lot of coaching in my time. A lot of the time, they did not have responsibilities and their parents did not do a good job raising them. A lot of these kids look to us coaches for guidance,” says Jeff Sanford.
Sanford is running for a commissioner seat for the first time and says parents need to be more proactive in their children’s lives.
“Parents need to be involved as much as they can with their kids. Because of social media and the things we have going on today, we do not have those problems. So I think parental involvement is huge,” says Sanford.
