IHSAA reveals volleyball sectional pairings for Evansville area

EVANSVILLE — The IHSAA volleyball postseason is almost here.

State runners-up Castle and Tecumseh, as well as Memorial, North Posey and Barr-Reeve, will attempt to defend their sectional titles this month. Will any of those squads (or others) make a deep postseason run? Sectional action begins on Oct. 15.

Here are some quick thoughts on the local brackets.

We will see fireworks right out of the gate in the Class 4A sectional at Castle . The Knights and No. 9 North are the only 20-win teams in the Southern Indiana Athletic Conference and will face each other for the third time this season in the semifinals. While North defeated Castle 2-1 at the John Breeding Invitational, the Knights came away with a straight-sets victory on the road Tuesday.

The Class 3A sectional at Jasper should also be exciting. The Wildcats are one of the area’s hottest teams and have not lost a five-setter this season. It’s likely they will make it out of their bracket for the first time since 2016. But there could be a potential semifinal matchup between Gibson Southern, which drew a bye, and Washington. The Hatchets defeated the Titans in five during their previous meeting in Fort Branch.
