YWCA Week Without Violence kicks off in Evansville

EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WEHT) — October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month, and in Evansville, organizations in the community are helping shed light on an issue that affects all genders, races and ages.

The Youth Women’s Christian Association is hosting events throughout the month. At Monday’s event. the audience got a first hand account of living through abuse from a survivor.

The YWCA works closely with domestic violence survivors. Tara Williams shared her story during Monday’s event and gave a glimpse of hope and empowerment to those who would listen.

The event focused on ways to help victims of domestic violence advocating for change, listening to survivors and helping in the community.

Williams shared her testimony of failures and successes, crediting her caseworker and parents, with helping to change her life towards a new direction after experiencing an abusive relationship.

Now she says she provides a safe, sober and loving home for her two daughters.

Williams hopes she can be a light for others, showing that it is possible to have a success story.
