EVANSVILLE — INDOT workers were reopening the closed Oak Grove Road bridge over Interstate 69 in Evansville at 8 a.m. Friday.
The state-maintained bridge had been closed for more than two weeks, ever since a vehicle carrying heavy construction equipment struck one of its support beams on Oct. 8.
INDOT performed maintenance work on the bridge on Oct. 17, which closed one southbound lane of I-69 on that day only. It was part of what the state transportation department called an ongoing investigation by its engineers to ascertain how much weight the bridge could handle after the accident.

On Friday morning, INDOT’s Southwest Indiana spokesman, Gary Brian, told the Courier & Press the inspection had yielded good news. The damage was minor.
“No weight restrictions (are) needed following that load rating inspection process,” Brian said by text message.
INDOT said it notified the Evansville Police Department about the bridge strike. No citations were issued.
