EVANSVILLE — Voters in Vanderburgh County have more than just county council and commission positions on the ballot this year.
Down-ballot races for positions like Vanderburgh County Coroner are also up for grabs, and contested.
The position is currently held by Steve Lockyear, who will not seek reelection.
Voters will choose between Republican Bryan Underwood and Democrat Keith Mosby on Nov. 5. If answers from a candidate are not provided, they did not respond.
Here is a Q&A covering some of the big topics of the coroner’s office.
Briefly describe what relevant work experience you offer as a candidate for Vanderburgh County Coroner.
Bryan Underwood: As a violent crimes detective, I am called to all death investigations unless it is a person in hospice care. It is my job to determine if the death is from natural causes or if there are any signs of foul play. Most occasions, I have already determined the cause of death before the coroner has been called to the scene. And being involved in over 160 deaths, I am qualified to make that decision.
