Indiana governor’s race comes to Evansville

EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WEHT) — The top two candidates for Indiana Governor are visiting Evansville this weekend.

Democrat Jennifer McCormick and Republican U-S Senator Mike Braun will make their final pitches to the voters this weekend.

McCormick is first. She meets with local officials and stops by downtown businesses Friday afternoon.

She says she’s here to celebrate what she calls the great work in the city.

“We’re going to visit some small businesses because we know how important they are to the entire State of Indiana. You’re fortunate in this area in Evansville to have some great small businesses that are very successful and so we’re going to take advantage of that.”

Before hitting those businesses the afternoon kicked off at the pagoda where Evansville Mayor Stephanie Terry along with local officials discussed the strategic Ohio River Vision Plan.

They include supporting reproductive rights including abortion and supporting educational issues especially early childhood care.

“We must prioritize education, which is early childcare in which we still have a third of our counties that do not have access to affordable childcare, but also two were one of the few states that does not have universal pre-k,” says McCormick.
