HENDERSON, KY (WEHT) – Holiday light displays will be coming back to Legion Park in Owensboro after overwhelming public response.
City officials announced earlier this week that “Holiday in the Park” would not be returning. Officials explained the decision was due to numerous issues including limited power availability, ongoing maintenance and labor required for the display.
Officials also explain many of the Legion Park light structures have deteriorated after years of use as well as labor required as needs increase in other areas of the city.
“While we knew Holiday in the Park was well-loved, we were blown away at the passion and nostalgia generated by the generations who have visited Legion Park over the year,” officials said. “Although several of the original light displays can no longer be used, the event will retain the familiar, festive Holiday in the Park charm that visitors have come to love at Legion.”
Officials say the city plans to make more Christmas announcements next week that can be found at Owensboro.org
