EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WEHT) — National Lung Cancer Screening Day is tomorrow, and Ascension Saint Vincent is working to increase awareness of early detection.
Lung cancer screenings involve a low dose CT scan, which can help to discover lung nodules or cancer early. Finding cancer earlier can mean a better treatment plan and a better outcome.
Randy Plunkett knows this first hand recalling how he only had one symptom shortness of breath and got tested early.
“I would suggest getting the scan. The answers are not going to hurt you, going without doing something is going to hurt you. So, my suggestion is you take the scan, you know, get scanned. If there is something wrong, these people prove they’ll fix it,” says Plunkett.
The lung screenings will be offered at Ascension Saint Vincent. Those who are between the age of 50 and 80, people who smoke now or within the past 15 years need to be screened.
