EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WEHT) — On Evansville’s west side, a development aiming to meet a housing demand is heading toward approval.
It means 2025 may be the year where the Karges building off W. Maryland Street may be given new life pending Evansville site review committee approval.
This developments also comes as the city identifies a few thousand residents in need of housing within the next five years.
“I think in “for sale” and in “rental housing,” we have about a 2,000 — a little bit above 2,000 — unit gap for “for sale” and in “rental housing.” So, a total of about 4,000 approximately across all housing,” says Dr. Kolbi Jackson who serves as Evansville’s Department of Metropolitan -Development executive director.
Among those projects to house Evansville is a proposed 120-unit complex where a portion of that number will be set aside for “workforce housing,” or for households making between 60 and 120% of the area median income.
Others are available for those with higher incomes.
“I’m excited for the work that this administration is doing to help close the housing gap, and I’m going to do whatever it is I can to help facilitate those developments moving forward,” Dr. Jackson says.
