Evansville crews ready to take on winter storm

EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WEHT) – This weekend will be all hands-on deck, making sure each department of the city is ready and prepared for whatever the forecast will bring.

Evansville EMA Director, Cliff Weaver says, “We have been monitoring this weather system for over a week now, and it has been difficult to forecast.”

Although weather can change overnight, Weaver adds that they have an idea of what could possibly happen.

Weaver says, “Around the Evansville area what we need to be concerned about here is the changeover. We may see quite a few different things. We might see this week. We might see snow. It’s the freezing rain that we’re concerned about with the current projections.”

Evansville has already started to pre-treat the roads, making sure to be prepared using in-house brine.

Crews will be covering 12 different routes, with some taking four hours just to treat.

Executive Director of Evansville Department of Transportation and Services, Todd Robertson says, “Some people may ask well if it’s not going to actually snow if you go out to get any rain by pre-treat well that’s one of the benefits of being able to actually make it here on site so that we can keep our cost low and we’d rather air on the side of caution.”
