EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WEHT) — At the height of the winter storm, over 60,000 CenterPoint customers were without power. While some have been restored, there are still tens of thousands in the dark. CenterPoint says this could take several days to fully restore.
Power lines down, transformers blown and trees on the roads can be seen in Evansville. The winter storm, “Blair,” has left behind significant damage due to the weight of the ice on tree limbs, leaving thousands without power.
Officials expect to complete power restoration for customers by the end of the day on Friday, January 10. They say more specific estimated times of restoration will be provided by the end of the day on Tuesday.
CenterPoint’s Senior Vice President for External Affairs, Mike Roeder, says crews are working around the clock to help restore power, but it could take several days to help after peaking at 60,000 outages on Sunday night.
“We have about 70 crews out right now that’ll be supplemented when we’ll have another,” says Roeder. “We’ll have a total of about 200 crew working and by the time we get to tomorrow morning and so those are folks that are coming from other utilities in the region through a mutual aid process and so we’re putting as many resources up against this to safely and quickly restore as many customers as possible.”
