Humid with scattered showers/storms over the weekend

EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WFIE) – We have finally reached the end of our string of alert days this week. The heat Advisory will remain in effect through 7 PM this evening for heat index values of 100-105. The area of high pressure that has kept us mostly dry, hot, and humid will break down and move off to the east this weekend. With high pressure out of the way, better chances for showers and storms arrive this weekend and through the start of the work week. A cold front will finally pass through the region Monday night into Tuesday morning and bring in a more seasonable and comfortable airmass through the middle of next week.

For our Friday, expect temperatures to warm into the low to mid-90s this afternoon. As we heat up for the day, some pop-up showers and storms will be possible later in the afternoon and into the evening. A stray shower will be possible overnight but most of the activity will dissipate with the loss of daytime heating. We’ll remain partly cloudy overnight with lows dropping into the low to mid-70s.

Looking ahead to the weekend we can expect temperatures to top out in the upper 80s to lower 90s. Scattered showers and storms will bubble up through both Saturday and Sunday. Neither day will be a wash-out but if you have any plans outside in the afternoon just keep an eye on the sky and if you hear thunder get indoors. Severe weather is not expected but these showers/storms can produce heavy rain, lightning, and maybe some gusty winds…
