Evansville Says Goodbye to Loyal Mounted Patrol Horse Scotty

Police in one Indiana community shared sad news of the passing of an important member of the department.

Scotty’s Service to the Evansville Community

According to the Evansville Police Foundation, the Evansville Police Department is saying goodbye to Scotty, a four-legged member of the EPD’s Mounted Patrol. Scotty became part of the Evansville Police Department in 2019.

A Gentle Giant With a Big Impact

Over the last six years, the Palomino Quarter Horse attended hundreds of community events and schools, all while serving the Evansville community. Scotty was an annual attendee of the Kentucky Horse Park Mounted Police Colloquium, where he helped the EPD bring home second place in 2023.

A Legacy of Service and Training

In February of 2024, the EPD Mounted Patrol said goodbye to another service horse named Goldie. She was one of the very first horses to help launch the Mounted Patrol in Evansville in 2017, and went on to train other horses, like Scotty, in the program.

Remembering Scotty’s Legacy

Scotty was a gentle giant who served our community with strength, calmness, and unwavering loyalty. He participated in over 60 community engagements each year. Whether patrolling Evansville events or bringing smiles to children at school visits, he made a lasting impact everywhere he went. He will be deeply missed.

Honoring Scotty’s Memory

The Evansville Police Foundation says Scotty had been battling an “extended illness.” He passed on Sunday, June 29, 2025. There is no doubt he has left behind a legacy with the EPD.
