EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WEHT) – Something new is launching in downtown Evansville just in time for the Fourth of July. The Designated Outdoor Refreshment Area, or DORA, will allow for customers to carry alcoholic beverages through a designated portion of downtown in a DORA-branded cup, purchased from any designated business.
Signs are in place throughout downtown signifying the DORA boundaries and participating businesses. The DORA was approved by Evansville City Council in March and approval from the state was complete just in time for large crowds expected for the holiday celebrations on the 4th. Adam Trinkle, Executive Director of the Downtown Evansville Economic Improvement District, says this will help downtown businesses and the overall downtown experience.
“A perfect example is maybe somebody’s at a restaurant or bar and they had a meal,” says Trinkle, “but they’re heading up to the Ford Center, Victory Theatre, or Old National Events Plaza for a concert or an event. They can now purchase that alcoholic beverage in a DORA-branded cup and take it and walk along the street and enjoy it before they go to the concert.”
DORA hours during July will run from 10 am to 10 pm daily. Otherwise, hours will be 4:30 pm to 10:00 pm on week nights, and 10 am to 10 pm on weekends. A list of approved DORA businesses can be found by clicking here…
