On Alert: Flooding and dangerous heat this week

EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WFIE) – A frontal boundary stalled just to our north will keep the weather wet for the start of the week. Flooding may be possible with any heavy shower or storm that develops Monday. Some stronger storms that develop may also produce isolated strong to damaging wind gusts. Shower chances decrease through the middle of the week but heat and humidity ramp-up. Index values will top out in the lower triple digits through the end of the week.

Monday morning will be the wetter half of the day today. Showers and storms parked to our north will gradually sink southward this morning. With ample moisture and slow storm motion, scattered areas of flooding will be possible, especially along and north of I-64. The bulk of the rain will clear out by this afternoon. However, an isolated chance for a shower or storm still exists this afternoon and evening. Localized areas of flooding will be possible with any isolated shower/storm that pops up through the afternoon. Highs today will top out around 90. Temperatures will drop into the lower 70s overnight. Shower chances decrease Tuesday-Thursday but an isolated chance for a shower or storm in the afternoon can’t be ruled out. Temperatures will top out in the low to mid-90s with heat index values up to 105 or more possible. Remember to drink plenty of water and take frequent breaks in the air conditioning. Check in with family, friends, and neighbors, especially the elderly and very young children…
