Tensions rise as Henderson Fiscal Court passes wind project moratorium

HENDERSON, Ky. (WEHT) – A tense debate breaks out, lasting for over 2 hours, during a July 22 fiscal court meeting in Henderson. The tension surrounds a possible wind project coming to an undetermined part of the county, with residents claiming a lack of transparency and the county pointing to misunderstanding.

Resident Shannon Hill kicked off the discussion before the court passed a 1 year moratorium, asking for a 2year pause or to abolish the plan altogether. Hill also accuses the fiscal court, including Judge Executive Brad Schneider, of hiding information on the project, referencing a private dinner held by Rock Bluff Energy project officials, who invited members of the fiscal court.

“What evidence do you have of any meeting that has resulted in a vote, with Rock Bluff or any other business going throughout our planning process? Anything that we’ve actually taken a vote on,” asks Schneider. “No,” replies Hill, “I was just concerned.”

Residents quickly took over the meeting, alleging the court was moving forward without offering public input. But the court responded, citing state law that requires a moratorium to pass prior to any further planning. “We haven’t done anything yet,” says Magistrate Butch Puttman, “today is the first step!”…
