Contractor arrested for alleged home improvement fraud and alleged theft

HENDERSON, Ky. (WEHT) – The Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office (VCSO) has arrested an Evansville contractor on multiple charges of theft and fraud following an investigation into a complaint of Home Improvement Fraud.

Deputies say in late February 2025, they took a report from a Vanderburgh County resident who alleged that a contractor she had hired to build a room addition to her home had been paid tens of thousands of dollars for work that, after numerous delays, was substandard, not to code and ultimately left incomplete.

The VCSO says the victim had contracted Eric N. Morgan and his business, “Eric Morgan DBA Rugged Construction,” in October 2023 to construct the addition. The victim reports she initially paid a $25,000 down payment. The victim says the addition was intended to house her ill mother so she could receive care while living with the family…
