Oakland City breaks ground on first housing development in nearly 40 years

OAKLAND CITY, Ind. (WEVV) — For the first time in nearly four decades, Oakland City is seeing new residential development. City officials broke ground on eight new duplexes as part of the Oakland Gardens housing project, with four additional units planned.

“This was a dream we started about four and a half years ago with New Hope Services in Jeffersonville, Indiana,” said Mayor James Deffendall, who has championed the project since its inception.
