Recovery operation expected after an empty boat was found on the Ohio River

HENDERSON, Ky. (WEHT) — An empty boat floating on the Ohio River sparked a search and rescue operation in Vanderburgh County. Officials believe it will be a recovery operation.

Officials with the Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office say a boat was found floating down the Ohio River near the Dogtown Boat Ramp. The boat was docked by bystanders and Posey, Vanderburgh and Henderson County first responders started the search and rescue operation.

Officials went on to say they found the owner’s wallet, phone and car. The family of the owner says they have not heard from them. Officials with the Vanderburgh County Fire Department say Wednesday’s search for the owner is over and will resume Thursday.

Indiana DNR is leading the investigation. The Identity of the boats owner has not yet been released…
