First day of school begins for Mater Dei students

EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WEHT) – The first day of school has begun for Mater Dei, and upperclassmen are greeting the freshmen as they approach their first day of high school.

Starting high school can be scary, but some Mater Dei upperclassmen are determined to keep the nerves away for the first day of school.

For senior Eli Kane, he hopes this kind of warm welcome will also encourage freshmen to be a little more courageous as they step into a building they will call “home” for the next four years.

EVSC to begin school year with staggered start

“Be excited. Put yourself out there and don’t hold anything back. High school is a great experience. It’s been a blast for me and I hope they can put themselves out there early and not wait until senior year.” Kane says.

School officials say the rest of the returning students will have their first day of school on Tuesday…
