HENDERSON, Ky. (WEHT) – The Henderson County Sheriff’s Office is investigating after receiving a report from Geronimo Power that 32 solar panels were shot at the Unbridled Solar Farm near the Henderson-Webster county line. The sheriff’s office says the incident occurred earlier this Summer, possibly in June, at the solar farm near Robards, a 160 megawatt farm that has the ability to power 15,000 homes.
Jeremy Harms with Geronimo Power says his team discovered the damage within the last few weeks. “We had 32 panels that were shot at,” Harms stated during an August 12 Henderson County Fiscal Court meeting. “Several other panels were shot at multiple times. It looked like this was probably around the evening time from the way that the bullet holes were.”
“It’s difficult to investigate because you really don’t have any type of witnesses or any type of evidence that can help determine who may have done it,” says Henderson County Sheriff Chip Stauffer. That difficulty is largely due to the rural area of the incident and a lack of witnesses in the vicinity. Sheriff Stauffer also says gunfire is common in the rural areas of Henderson County, which may also create difficulty for the investigation.
