There’s a chill in the air, and it’s time to hear tales of Evansville’s past residents.
Ghost Walks
I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again: I am a sucker for a good ghost story. If you tell me a building is haunted, I want to know everything about it. Who haunts it? Why do they haunt it? Why do people think it’s haunted? Tell. Me. Everything. This is a big part of the reason I love ghost walks. Not only do you get to hear ghost stories, you get to see the haunted locations in person.
If you have never been on a ghost walk before, they are a fun experience that I highly recommend. During a ghost walk, you follow a tour guide around an area and are taken to different locations that are said to be haunted. At each location, you’re usually told a little bit of the history, as well as the tales of things that go “bump” in the night there. It’s just a really fun way to hear campfire stories, but you’re hearing them at the location of the legends, which I think is pretty neat! If this sounds up your alley, then you’ll be happy to know that you can hear tales of hauntings right in our own backyard with Haunted Historic Evansville.
Haunted Historic Evansville
Each year, Haunted Historic Evansville hosts ghost walks throughout downtown Evansville. They consider themselves a theatrical walking ghost tour, and they specialize in the Riverside Historic District. \
The event is also a fundraiser for a few local organizations.

This year, they’ll be hosting the annual ghost walks on October 10th and 11th. They say each tour will last about 75 minutes.
The Haunted Historic Evansville ghost walks will take you back in time to haunts throughout Evansville’s Riverside Historic Disctrict. Experience sights like the beautiful, historic Reitz family home with spirit appearances by Edward Reitz, Annie Fellows Johnston & Hallie Eaves Johnston (the Penny Lane Coffee Shop ghosts), Dr. Abraham Owen and more.
The walking tour will regale the district’s history, architecture, prominent residents and even ghost stories and spooky sightings. This event is a walking spooky theatrical experience as all ghost appearances are portrayed by Evansville Civic Theatre actors…
