Evansville Approves Wheel Tax, Tell City Delays Decision

EVANSVILLE — The Evansville City Council has approved a new wheel tax to boost funding for road projects, while Tell City leaders postponed a similar measure for at least a year.

Evansville council members voted 8-1 to adopt the tax, which will take effect Thursday, Jan. 1, 2026. Passenger vehicle owners will pay $20 annually, motorcycles $10, and heavy trucks $30. The tax is expected to generate about $2.7 million a year.
