Man arrested after allegedly threatening to blow up Evansville hotel

HENDERSON, Ky. (WEHT) – Officers with the Evansville Police Department (EPD) say a man was arrested after allegedly threatening to blow up a hotel in downtown Evansville.

According to the EPD, on August 31 around 3:45 p.m., in the 600 block of Bob Jones Way in Evansville, it was reported that a homeless man was allegedly harassing the employees and customers, reportedly making threats to blow up the building. An officer responding to the scene says they saw a man, later identified as suspect Robert Scarbrough, walking away from the hotel, and an employee with the hotel pointed out Scarbrough when the officer asked where the suspect was. According to officers, hotel employees accused Scarbrough of walking up to the hotel asking for water or the bathroom. Employees allegedly told Scarbrough that they could not provide either and that employees would call the police if Scarbrough didn’t leave.

The employee says that Scarbrough allegedly stated he would blow the place up and kill the employees in there. In response, employees tell law enforcement that they contacted police. Employees tell police they felt threatened and in fear when Scarbrough allegedly said those words.

Police allege that Scarbrough told them several times that he is a CIA official, on scene, en route to jail, and while booking. An EPD officer says they asked Scarbrough if he was telling them that he is CIA and he reportedly confirmed it. When EPD asked if he had any proof, he allegedly stated, “Do I need proof? I’m innocent.”
