Former County Finance Director sentenced for wire fraud
EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WISH) — The former Vanderburgh County Director of Finance, 59-year-old Regene Newman, was sentenced to one and a half years in prison for stealing over $125,000 in a wire fraud scheme.
Newman pleaded guilty to wire fraud and has already paid $101,133.55 in restitution to two victims and settled privately with a third.
Court documents say that Newman, who served as Vanderburgh County Prosecutor’s Office Director of Finance between 2015-2021, stole the public funds during a period of over seven years.
