This Henderson Native Has Designed TVs Most Iconic Costumes

I cannot believe I am just now learning about this amazingly talented human and her tristate connection, but I LOVE discovering cool Kentuckians. Especially when they’re creative and let’s be honest, iconic.

Henderson native Ane Crabtree is a three-time Emmy-nominated costume designer who has worked on some of my favorite TV shows of all time. Have you heard of any of these by chance?

The Handmaid’s Tale

Ane’s work on The Handmaid’s Tale has gotten her the most notoriety. The popular series is based on the 1985 novel of the same name by Margaret Atwood. Following the descriptions in the book, this costuming brought to life the tiered system of power that set the scene for everything that happens.

The Smithsonian Museum of American History

Her visualization of the casts of people from Commanders, to Marthas, to Jezebels made the dystopian world painfully realistic. The Handmaids’ uniform has become so iconic that it is now displayed in The Smithsonian Museum of American History as part of their permanent collection.
