NEWBURGH, Ind. (WKRC) – Thick clouds of smoke enveloped parts of an Ohio River town over the weekend following a hazardous chemical fire that erupted outside on Saturday.
A shelter-in-place order had been called for some residents around the Newburgh area as officials in hazmat suits alongside multiple counties’ fire crews worked to put out the fire, WFIE reported.
The Ohio Township Fire Department said the blaze wasn’t extinguished until the following day, 13 hours after the fire started. Officials noted that hazardous materials were stored on site and that chemicals were on fire outside a building. No injuries or fatalities were reported.
WFIE got confirmation from a fire chief that the fire was at PBTT, a manufacturing plant which produces finished goods with metal plating for clients in the firearms, optics, aerospace, automotive, electronics, and oil and gas industries.
