Warrick County Humane Society issues update following chemical fire

HENDERSON, Ky. (WEHT) — The Warrick Humane Society (WHS) has issued an update on September 10 following the chemical fire in Warrick County over the weekend.

Here is the list of updates:

  • All of the animals that were in the shelter’s care are in foster homes.
  • The WHS says it has been in contact with the insurance company, and the WHS is still waiting to hear back as to whether anything will be covered. The situation is being assessed by WHS’s environmental team since the fire did not take place on the WHS’s property.
  • On July 9, the EPA was going to assess the WHS’s current location for pH levels and report back by the end of the day. Yet, no report has been issued.
  • On July 9, the EPA was going to assess the shelter’s new facility for pH levels. The EPA does not have anything to report at this time. The new building shell is up with no windows or doors. The inside of the building has ash on the piping, insulation, HVAC ductwork and untreated wood.
  • Test results on what exactly the ash contains will not come back until later this week, at the very earliest.

The humane society says it will keep sharing updates as soon as it gets answers…
