HENDERSON, Ky. (WEHT) – A clemency hearing for convicted murderer Roy Lee Ward is scheduled for this week.
The Indiana Parole Board will hold the hearing at 10 a.m. on Friday at the Indiana State Prison in Michigan City. Ward’s execution is set for October 10.

The hearing is a last chance opportunity for Ward to escape the death penalty. During it, members will hear from attorneys and the family of the victim – Spencer County teen Stacey Payne – who Ward raped and murdered in 2001.

Then, on September 22, a public hearing will be held in Indianapolis for people to speak out for or against clemency. Following that meeting, the clemency board will make its recommendation the Governor Mike Braun.
