Attempted murder charges filed after shootout wounds Evansville officer
EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WISH) — A probationary police officer, hit twice early Sunday morning during a shootout while pursuing suspects of a car theft, was left with what the Evansville mayor on Monday called serious injuries.
Officer Samuel Taylor had one bullet graze his head, and another strike his upper left arm, Evansville Police Chief Philip Smith said in a Monday noontime news conference livestreamed on Facebook.
Prosecutors on Monday filed attempted murder charges against Jailani Chew in Vanderburgh Circuit Court. The police chief said Chew had turned 18 just a month ago. Online court records did not say when Chew might be given an initial hearing, but his bond was set at $1 million on Monday…
