Evansville mother accused of leaving 1-year-old alone with drunk teens

HENDERSON, Ky. (WEHT) – An Evansville woman was arrested after authorities say she left her one-year-old child alone with two teenagers, and provided alcohol to the juveniles in her home.

According to an affidavit, officers were dispatched to the 1700 block of Stevens Avenue at approximately 5 a.m. on July 5 after a one-year-old was reportedly found walking in the street alone. Authorities say the 911 caller advised the one-year-old’s diaper was urine soaked, and the victim had bad diaper rash and a sore.

Officers went to the child’s home, and reported finding a 16-year-old having a seizure, who was transported to a hospital. Another juvenile in the home told authorities she was visiting the 16-year-old, and the child’s mother, Ashley Ellis, 42, gave them both a bottle of vodka and left the two teenagers alone with the one-year-old.

During an interview with authorities, Ellis reportedly told authorities there was a bottle of vodka in the freezer, and one of the juveniles asked if they could have a shot of vodka before she left the residence. Ellis also said she planned to be home by 6 a.m. because she did not expect the one-year-old to wake up until 10 a.m.. However, she later said she chose not to go home after speaking with the child’s father…
