EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WEHT) – A pedestrian overpass bridge on the west side of Evansville will be removed overnight Monday, forcing all lanes of a section of the Lloyd Expressway to close. The closure will take place at 11pm Monday October 20, and is expected to last through 4am the following morning. This will allow crews to lift the bridge to an adjacent parking lot where it will then be dismantled.
The closure will affect a section of the Lloyd between St. Joseph Avenue and Barker Avenue. Westbound drivers are to detour by taking St. Joseph Avenue to Franklin Street, then to Lemcke Avenue to return to the Lloyd. Eastbound traffic should take Barker to Ray Becker Parkway to get back on the Lloyd.
Lane closure planned for State Road 62/Morgan Avenue in Evansville
Plans are in place to build a more modern replacement overpass bridge, expected to be 177 feet long. Nicole Minton with The Lloyd4U Project says the new bridge will be larger than the current structure, which was built in 1957.
“We’re excited to make it a little larger so that, should there be a need add capacity in this area, it’s already built to meet that need,” explains Minton. “And it will be a better experience for the users as well. Just changing that design a little bit to be more accommodating to people.”…
