Kentucky sheriff asks residents to unfollow local police scanner page

HENDERSON, Ky. (WEHT) — McLean County officials are asking residents to unfollow a social media page that is reporting on police scanner traffic.

Sheriff Ken Frizzell shared his disapproval of the page “The Owensboro Police Scanner” after he claims misinformation was spread due to something they posted. This comes months after the sheriff says a custody call in Island, Kentucky, was reported as a child abduction by the page.

Sheriff Frizzell said that multiple calls were made to both the sheriff’s office and the dispatch center from concerned residents following the post. He said the page is spreading false narratives and that too much time is spent counteracting misinformation on the page.

“These sites, they simply can’t be trusted,” Frizzell said. “They either don’t have the right story, or they only have part of the story. Which leads to a lot of assumptions and can cause undue panic and alarm within the public.”…
