Authorities say man smoked meth before running over child in Evansville

HENDERSON, Ky. (WEHT) – Police have identified the man accused of running over a child and then fleeing the scene in the area of Joan Avenue and Joan Place in Evansville on Sunday afternoon.

According to an affidavit, officers were dispatched to the location just after 5 p.m. for a report of a child who was hit by a car. While en route to the scene, officers were informed that the suspect had fled from the scene in a white minivan. Security footage from a neighbor showed a white minivan speeding off from the scene and a child laying in the street motionless.

Police say they located the vehicle in a parking lot of a motel on Fares Avenue less than an hour later, with Michael Pease, 49, of Evansville behind the wheel. While speaking with Pease, he reportedly denied driving the vehicle for the previous three hours, and claimed that someone may have taken the van while he was at the motel…
