HENDERSON, Ky. (WEHT) — A local group spent Saturday morning cleaning about a dozen headstones at a historic black cemetery in Henderson County.
Members of the Jerusalem Masonic Lodge cleaned and leveled headstones at Mount Zion Cemetery off South Green Street. The group also placed American flags.
Organizers say some of the headstones were leaning over or lying completely flat on the ground. Officials say some of the graves date back to the Civil War. This is the group’s first year doing projects like this.
