Evansville man arrested after bugs found infesting home with juvenile

HENDERSON, Ky. (WEHT) – An Evansville man was charged with neglect after authorities say a welfare check on a juvenile in his home lead to the discovery of a large amount of bugs, and other unfit conditions.

According to authorities, officers were dispatched to a welfare check at a home in the 5600 block of Des Plaines Drive on Saturday after a caller reported a child was with Michael Schatz, 20, despite the caller believing there was a protective order against him preventing him from taking the child.

Officers arrived at the scene and spoke with Schatz, who said the juvenile had been placed with him by the Indiana Department of Child Services a few days prior. Inside the home, authorities reported a foul smell of animal feces in the hallway and a large amount of bugs flying and crawling on the floor and walls.
