Evansville man accused of striking officer during OWI arrest

HENDERSON, Ky. (WEHT) – Evansville Police say a man struck police attempting to detain him during an arrest for causing an accident while under the influence.

Authorities were dispatched to a report of an accident with injuries at the intersection of Diamond Avenue and First Avenue on Tuesday night. Officers arriving at the scene reported that one of the drivers, Cody Arnett, 32, appeared to be under the influence of alcohol, and was unable to stand without assistance. While being transported to a hospital, an officer reported Arnett became agitated over not being able to see his service dog, and began swinging his arms, striking the officer.

At the hospital, authorities say Arnett admitted to drinking five beers and a shot of whiskey. He also said he had taken prescription medication earlier in the night. According to an affidavit, authorities were able to determine that Arnett had been traveling at least 59 miles per hour at the time of the crash, 19 miles per hour over the speed limit at the intersection…
