HENDERSON, Ky. (WEHT) – The man accused of shooting EPD Officer Sam Taylor is seeking to move his case out of Vanderburgh County.
Court documents indicate officials filed a change in venue for Jailani Chew on November 17. Documents indicate Chew had a Review Hearing at 9 a.m. on November 17. Documents indicate Chew is supposed to in court today.
Hocky benefit game held for Officer Sam Taylor
During a press conference, Evansville Police Chief Philip Smith provided details on the shooting that lead to the arrest of Jailani Chew and a juvenile, who were reportedly found inside of a stolen vehicle at a restaurant on Virginia Street in September.
Woman charged with neglect after crash with child in car
Authorities say Chew and the juvenile attempted to flee from the scene after officers performed a pinning maneuver on the vehicle. Authorities say Chew ran across the road to a nearby gas station, where he attempted to steal a vehicle at gunpoint. Evansville Police Officer Sam Taylor was seen in footage pursuing Chew, who then turned around and fired at Taylor. Chew was shot by another officer at the scene, identified as Officer Seth Gorman. Chew’s injuries were described as non-life threatening. Chew was booked into the Vanderburgh County Jail.
Officer Taylor suffered a T3 spinal cord injury from the shooting, and he continues his recovery in Atlanta…
