HENDERSON, Ky. (WEHT) – Police say a convicted felon was arrested near a school after he allegedly fled a traffic stop.
According to the Evansville Police Department (EPD), on November 19 around 10:18 p.m., an Evansville police officer was parked on the shoulder of the Lloyd Expressway, conducting speed enforcement, when he observed a gray Ford Mustang driving westbound at 101 mph in the posted 50 mph zone.
Verdict reached in attempted murder case on Adams Avenue
EPD says the officer conducted a traffic stop on the car and attempted to remove the driver after allegedly seeing an open alcohol container in the cup holder as well as other indicators of impairment. As the officer was ordering him out, police say the driver put it in gear and sped away. EPD says the officer did not engage in a vehicle pursuit.

Police say a short time later, officers located the Mustang again and watched as it continued to allegedly drive recklessly and reportedly sideswiped a dumpster near Dexter Elementary School. Officers caught up to the driver and officers say they were able to place him into custody a short time later.
Officers say the driver was lodged in the Vanderburgh County Jail under numerous charges, including Unlawful Carrying Of A Handgun Within 500 Feet Of A School.
