Remembering the fall of Evansville’s Old National Bank building

HENDERSON, Ky. (WEHT) – Just four years ago, Evansville’s downtown skyline changed forever. On that rainy Sunday morning, the city’s tallest building at the time came crashing down.

Former Eyewitness News evening anchor Brad Byrd led the news coverage. Just after 7 a.m., the downtown silence was replaced by the sound of more than 300 pounds of explosives. And in under a minute, the 420 Main Building was reduced to a pile of rubble.

Evansville Animal Care and Control hold open house

To most, it was more commonly known as the Old National Bank Building. The tower had stood largely empty for years, following Old National’s relocation in 2004. Because of its deteriorating condition, the decision was made to bring it down. In its place, a new development.

EVPL Red Bank to be demolished and rebuilt

The Vault On Main is now nearing completion. The nearly $60 million project is a combination of residential and retail space. Earlier this year, we were told pre-leasing for its nearly 200 living units should begin in the spring of next year.

The complex is set to open next summer…
