Wintry Mix Arrives With Travel Impacts Possible

A developing system is moving into the Tri-State today, bringing the first flakes and pockets of wintry mix to the region this morning. For many locations, precipitation will begin as snow or a rain/snow mix before gradually transitioning to mainly rain by later this afternoon and evening as warmer air lifts north.

Areas along and north of Interstate 64 have the best chance of seeing light snow accumulation, and a Winter Weather Advisory is in place for that zone. Brief heavier bursts of snow or sleet may create travel issues early in the day, especially during the morning. Forecast confidence is highest for rain dominating by midday into tonight, with highs in the upper 30s nearing 40°F — enough to help limit lingering road problems once the transition occurs. Southeast winds will also be breezy at times, gusting 25–35 mph.

Once the front passes tonight, winds turn west-northwest with a brief chance for light snow to redevelop, but no additional accumulation is expected. Temperatures then trend colder through the rest of the weekend and into early next week with values running below seasonal norms…
