Father charged with neglect after allegedly driving under the influence with children

KNOX COUNTY, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — A Gibson County father has been charged with neglect of a dependent after police in Knox County said he was driving under the influence while his children were inside the vehicle.

Jaret VanPatten, 27, was taken into custody on December 2 after a traffic stop in Knox County. A Knox County deputy initiated the traffic stop after VanPatten nearly hit two vehicles while traveling at a high speed, according to Indiana State Police.

While speaking with VanPatten, state police said the deputy noticed a smell of alcohol coming from the vehicle. VanPatten allegedly also showed signs of impairment during the traffic stop…
