Foggy weather complicates an already busy holiday travel week

VANDERBURGH COUNTY, Ind. (WEHT) – AAA estimates in Indiana alone nearly 2.5 million drivers will hit the roads between last weekend and this upcoming weekend. Add the recent foggy weather and you have a complicated Christmas commute.

“We didn’t really see a dramatic uptick in the number of crashes, although we do believe the foggy weather was related to at least a few of those crashes, but not necessarily more crashes than normal,” explains Vanderburgh County Sheriff Noah Robinson. He says deputies and Evansville Police responded to 7 crashes from 8pm on December 23 to Noon Christmas Eve. While drivers have no snow or ice to worry about this season, the warmer weather may lull motorists into a false sense of security.

“Some folks might be tempted, maybe, to drive a bit faster than normal to get to their holiday destinations on time,” says Sheriff Robinson. The sheriff’s office is also anticipating higher traffic volume from last-minute shoppers…
