A major investment is headed to Western Kentucky as Owensboro and Henderson County land nearly $2 million to expand affordable housing and strengthen local communities. Here’s a look at the exciting details.
Nearly $2 Million Headed to Owensboro and Henderson for Affordable Housing
Affordable housing is something many families in Owensboro and Henderson County are thinking about, and now, there’s some good news to share. Nearly $2 million in grant funding is coming to our area through the Federal Home Loan Bank of Cincinnati’s (FHLB Cincinnati) 2025 Affordable Housing Program (AHP), supporting two local projects that will help meet a growing housing need.
These funds will help bring more safe, stable, and affordable housing options to our region at a time when rising costs continue to put pressure on households across western Kentucky.
A Big Picture Investment with Local Impact
The grants awarded locally are part of a much greater effort by FHLB Cincinnati. In 2025, the organization awarded nearly $51.9 million to 56 housing projects across Kentucky, Ohio, and Tennessee. Those dollars will help create 2,990 affordable housing units, with funding awarded through 30 member financial institutions, including Field & Main Bank of Henderson.
“The affordable housing landscape is changing with many of our members and the organizations they support facing unprecedented challenges in the development and rehabilitation of housing throughout our region,” said Mr. Howell of FHLB Cincinnati. “We are proud to illustrate our commitment to affordable housing through our largest-ever announcement of Affordable Housing Program grants. The nearly $52 million that was awarded this year will look to support organizations throughout Kentucky, Ohio, and Tennessee develop new housing opportunities and improve housing stock for those in need.”…
