Evansville Police warn of scam callers posing as banks

EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WEVV) — Evansville Police are warning residents about a growing scam where criminals pretend to be from a victim’s bank in an effort to steal sensitive financial information.

Police say scammers are calling or texting people while claiming to be from a bank’s fraud department. In some cases, the caller ID may appear to show the bank’s real phone number, making the contact seem legitimate.

Authorities say scammers often claim there is suspicious activity on an account and pressure victims to act quickly.
