Your Ultimate Evansville Summer Bucket List (And Where to Do It)

Your Evansville Summer Bucket List (And Exactly Where to Do It) ☀️

I know it doesn’t feel like it outside yet, but summer is creeping around the corner and being new to the area I made a bucket list of everything I want to accomplish this summer. Being around locals saying “you need to check this out, you would love this”, I have been taking notes. I expect those notes to continue to grow from now until summer comes but what we’re working with so far has me pretty excited. So if your a newcomer like me, instead of letting another summer slip by, here’s a very doable Evansville summer bucket list with exact places you can go to make it happen.

Go Hiking in at Least 10 Parks in Southern Indiana

Southern Indiana is quietly one of the best spots for outdoor lovers. As much as I’ve been inside recently my goal is to hike at least twice a week this summer and there’s so many places to choose from. Start close to home at Wesselman Woods, Howell Wetlands, and Garvin Park. Then branch out to Angel Mounds State Historic Site, Scales Lake Park, and Audubon State Park. If you’re up for a short drive, Brown County State Park, Shawnee National Forest, and Clifty Falls are absolutely worth it. Ten parks sounds ambitious but once you start, you’ll be hooked.

Try Wineries in the Countryside

A summer afternoon winery hop is elite-level relaxation. Check out Blue Heron Vineyard in Rockport for river views, Oliver Winery near Bloomington if you want a full experience, or Turtle Run Winery for something closer and cozy. These are perfect for a girls’ day, a date, or a “let’s drive and see where we end up” afternoon.

⚾ Go to an Evansville Otters Game

Head to Bosse Field, one of the oldest ballparks still in use, and cheer on the Evansville Otters. Even if you don’t know all the rules of baseball, the atmosphere, fireworks nights, and snacks make it a must-do summer tradition.

Spend a Day at Mesker Park Zoo

Mesker Park Zoo & Botanic Garden is a full-day adventure. Wear comfortable shoes, take breaks in the shade, and don’t rush it. It’s one of those places you forget how much you love until you go back.

Catch Movies in the Park

Keep an eye on Evansville Parks & Recreation events for Movies in the Park, often held at spots like Central Library Lawn, Garvin Park, or neighborhood parks. Bring a blanket, snacks, and bug spray, and enjoy a movie under the stars with the community.

Take a Tour of LST 325

Docked along the Ohio River, LST 325 is a living piece of history. Touring the ship gives you a whole new appreciation for Evansville’s role in WWII—and it’s one of those experiences visitors are always surprised by.

‍♀️ Participate in a Downtown 5K

Downtown Evansville hosts several fun runs throughout the summer. Look for events tied to festivals, charities, or community celebrations. Whether it’s Run Walk Evansville, YMCA events, or pop-up themed races, downtown 5Ks are more about the energy than the speed.

Have a Picnic at Wesselman Woods

Yes, it deserves a second mention. Wesselman Woods is the perfect picnic spot when you want quiet, shade, and nature sounds instead of traffic. Pack sandwiches, grab a blanket, and unplug for an hour or two.

Go Rock Climbing

Try indoor climbing at Vertical eXcape Evansville, where beginners are more than welcome. It’s air-conditioned, challenging, and surprisingly addictive. Great for rainy days or when you want to try something totally different…
