MOUNT VERNON, Ind. (WEVV) — A Mount Vernon man faces multiple felony charges after authorities say he led police on a 20-minute pursuit Monday night, destroying more than 15 mailboxes and intentionally ramming a patrol car.
Brandon T. Mattingly, 39, was arrested and lodged in the Posey County Jail following the incident that began around 11:17 p.m. on Feb. 9. According to the Mount Vernon Police Department, officers first responded to reports of a vehicle driving recklessly through alleys and striking trash cans near West 6th Street.
As more 911 calls reported reckless driving on Pearl and 3rd streets, and later Vista Drive, Officer Derek Mitchell spotted the vehicle turning onto Main Street. Police say the driver, later identified as Mattingly, partially ran off the road before driving through several yards on Vista and Lawrence drives, destroying mailboxes and landscaping.
Officers attempted a traffic stop, but Mattingly refused to pull over. During the ensuing pursuit, the vehicle lost a rear tire but continued to flee.
